PESHAWAR: A significant development has taken place in the formation of a Grand Opposition Alliance between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, PTI’s Secretary of Information, Sheikh Waqas Akram, stated that the concerns raised by Maulana Fazlur Rehman could be addressed through dialogue. He emphasized that both parties could sit together to resolve the issues.
Sheikh Waqas Akram highlighted that PTI founder Imran Khan has been unjustly imprisoned for 590 days on fabricated charges. He accused the government of suppressing voices through oppression, questioning whether this was the vision of Quaid-e-Azam for Pakistan.
He further claimed that incidents of terrorism have increased since April 2022, blaming the current rulers for the deteriorating situation in the country. He urged that the best course for Pakistan’s progress is the immediate release of Imran Khan. He also criticized the abduction of social media activists who speak out against the government, stating that citizens are now well aware of where the propaganda originates.
The PTI leader condemned the misuse of fake accounts to target PTI workers and expressed concerns over their mistreatment. He argued that if someone has committed an offense, legal action should be taken instead of enforced disappearances.
Sheikh Waqas Akram also criticized the current government’s lack of focus on key issues, such as terrorism, and vowed that PTI would not allow these "illegitimate rulers" to harm the country. He defended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's efforts against terrorism, stating that the police are performing their duties within their available resources.
